  पुरानी कहावत के अनुसार जब भाई दया सिंह जी ने चार साहिबजादों के साथ गुरु गोबिंद सिंह जी के सामने " अकाल , अकाल , अकाल ..." का नारा लगाया तो " अकाली " शब्द अस्तित्व में आया। प्रसिद्ध लेखक मैल्कम के अनुसार , ये सिंह ही सच्चे अकाली ( निहंग ) थे। वे सिख धर्म और राजनीतिक स्वतंत्रता का प्रतिनिधित्व करते थे। अकाली शब्द का इस्तेमाल पहले निहंगों के लिए किया जाता था। अकाली वह व्यक्ति होता है जो अकाल ( सर्वशक्तिमान ) का भक्त होता है। उग्र कट्टरपंथी अकाली संत सैनिक थे। यह भाईचारा नीली पोशाक और पगड़ी , चाकू और छोटे खंजर और स्टील के कंगन से पहचाना जाता था। जब माता गुजरी ने अपने पोते को नीली वर्दी में देखा तो उन्होंने कहा कि तुम्हारे परदादा छठे गुरु भी इसी तरह की पोशाक पहनते थे। जब वे सभी गुरु गोबिंद सिंह जी के सामने आए , तो उन्होंने कहा कि यह सबसे पवित्र परिधान है और एक सच्चे खालसा को दर्शाता है। बाद में उन्होंने ( गुरु ) घोषित किय...

ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਕਹਾਵਤ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਭਾਈ ਦਇਆ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਚਾਰ 'ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦਿਆਂ' ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ "ਅਕਾਲ, ਅਕਾਲ, ਅਕਾਲ..." ਦਾ ਨਾਅਰਾ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ "ਅਕਾਲੀ" ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ। ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਲੇਖਕ ਮੈਲਕਮ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਇਹ ਸਿੰਘ ਹੀ ਸਨ ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ (ਨਿਹੰਗ) ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੀ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਲਈ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਅਕਾਲੀ ਉਹ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਅਕਾਲ (ਸਰਬਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ) ਦਾ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੱਟੜ ਕੱਟੜ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਸੰਤ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਲੇ ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਗਾਂ, ਚਾਕੂਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਖੰਜਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਟੀਲ ਦੇ ਬਰੇਸਲੇਟ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਜਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੋਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਲੀ ਵਰਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੜਦਾਦਾ ਛੇਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਵੀ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੱਚੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨੇ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜੋ "ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਫੌਜ" ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਥਾਨ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਪੰਥ ਦੀ ਸਥ...

 According to old saying when Bhai Dya Singh Ji along with four ‘Sahibzadas’ hailed in front of Guru Gobind Singh Singh ji “Akal, Akal, Akal…” then the word “Akali” came into existence. According to a well renowned writer Malcolm, it were the Singh’s who were the true Akalis (Nihangs). They represented the Sikh religion and political independence. Akali term was earlier used for the Nihangs. Akali is a person who is a devotee of Akal (The almighty). The fierce fanatical Akalis were saint soldiers. This brotherhood was distinguished by blue dress and turbans, the knives and miniature daggers and steel bracelet.
