Baba Budha Dal, the foremost and historic Nihang Sikh army, traces its origins to the time of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and was formally organized by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This esteemed organization was created to uphold Sikh principles, protect Sikh religious sites, and provide martial training to the community. The Dal emerged as a distinct identity, deeply rooted in the martial and spiritual traditions of the Khalsa. Baba Binod Singh, a descendant of Guru Angad Dev Ji's lineage, was the first head (Jathedar) of Budha Dal, appointed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Nanded. He was entrusted with Nishan Sahib, Nagara (war drum), and weapons, establishing a strong foundation of leadership in the Panth.
